Gary Neville is still waiting for his first league win at Valencia after a knockout blow from Bruno settled the derby in Villarreal’s favour.
Neville faces old foe Rafa Benitez on Sunday as Real Madrid go to Mestalla and while there will not be quite the same needle as the old Manchester United vs Liverpool days both bosses are desperate for a win with Benitez under pressure and Neville now having lost one and drawn two of his first three La Liga matches.
His Valencia side gave a good account of themselves for the most part here but a silly foul conceded on the edge of the area and Bruno’s sublime set-piece delivery gave Villarreal a victory that moves them to fourth just five points from leaders Barcelona and three points from Real Madrid.
