[Educational] What is DDoS?

Post by LaughingKor on 4th January 2016, 9:56 am

A Denial of Service Attack (DoS Attack) is an attack to overwhelm the servers resources or bandwidth to stop legitimate users from being able to access the online applications.

A Distributed Denial of Service Attack (DDoS Attack) is the most common type of these attacks seen today. They consume online resources, similar to a DoS attack, but pack a bigger punch by using a botnet of machines to deploy the attack. The botnet is created by infecting machines, from 10 to 1000 or more, with malware.

These infected machines are then used concurrently to exhaust the targets online resources. There is an array of destructive DDoS Attack Types which strongly underscores the importance of including a DDoS First Line of Defense as a component of your network security architecture.
